Story:
I have always loved all things Japanese. I find the whole culture fascinating and captivating. No matter what visual stimulant I see, be it film, art, fashion, food etc, I always find that I'm turning Japanese. The cherry blossom gives me a feeling of peace and beauty all wrapped in one. I did this piece to try and capture that feeling. When you turn it on and see it glow i hope you feel it too.

Process:
To start, I did sketches trying to simplify this beautiful tree into a piece that could be cut. I then did a rough layout using a visual guide. Tracing the guide onto the Canson card followed. From there I spent several hours perfecting the dimensions and the composition of the tree and the flowers on the paper. I then cut out all the branches and the flowers. Following that I sewed the card onto the slightly larger Polypropylene sheet. Once both elements were together I punched holes along each side, rolled it up while taking great care not to affect the design too much, I than hand stitched the two sides together using embroidery thread. To finish off I added a layer on the inside of Polypropylene for protection and looks.

Size of the light cover is 60cm high and 113cm in diameter.

It was designed to fit a basic ikea light base ([link]), but can be used with any light base you like.

At no stage is there any glue used! It's all sewn together.
